Fortress\u00a0<\/strong>was built in 1646 in less than two months at the beginning of the Candian War according to the project of the Venetian military engineer Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>A year later, in 1647, there were heavy battles with the army of the Turkish pasha Tekelija, who wanted to occupy it in order to rule the city.<\/p>\n<p>The fortress has a star-shaped ground plan, and on the northern side it is reinforced by a high brick embankment in the shape of a pincer (Italian: tanaglia), which is where the name Tanaja, which the people of \u0160ibenik often use, comes from.<\/p>\n<p>During
