The Basics of Sailing course is for anyone who has always felt, whether through other people’s stories or simply by watching “the lucky ones,” that the wind, sails, and sea can provide truly unique satisfaction and joy. This cannot be expressed in words; it must only be experienced.

Who is this sailing course designed for?
Basics of sailing is a course designed for first-time sailors who want to spend their vacation actively.
In our 30 years of existence and experience, we have earned the trust of thousands of participants who have been sailing with us on a continuous basis. Many of them return season after season. Some have gone on to teach sailing. And almost all of them made sailing a way of life. We will make you want to return, whether you are an individual who wants to learn sailing skills or a family who wants to actively spend a holiday together.

What will you learn on this beginner’s sailing course?
You’ll begin by learning the English names of sailboat components. You’ll learn the sailboat’s basic movement directions, how to set up the sails, and when and where each crew member must be. You’ll learn which sails there are and when to use them, trimming the sails according to the wind.

Start sailing!
If you’ve always wanted to learn to sail but didn’t know where to begin, this course is for you.

Goal: adjusting to the wind, sea, and life on the sailboat, learning the fundamentals of sailing, and comprehending the fundamentals of nautical conduct at sea.

Adults of all ages (aged 16 to 18 with parental written consent)

No prior knowledge is required.

Minimum requirements include swimming ability and physical fitness.

Acquired skills include the fundamentals of steering, sail handling, and participation in daily routine work on the boat.

Simple accommodation onboard (available on a first-come, first-served basis for a small fee) or on the mainland (your own organization and expense)

All participants receive a participation certificate as well as a logbook to keep track of their skills, nautical miles sailed, and weather conditions.

Theoretical and practical parts include:

• safety at sea and ship
• boat parts terminology
• basic points of sailing (close hauling, reaching, broad-reaching, downwind)
• portside and starboard side, windward and leeward side
• what makes the boat move forward (Bernoulli’s law)
• positions of crew members
• sails and trimming of sails
• reefing of the sails
• sailing in course
• avoiding collisions at the sea
• turning the bow through the wind – tack
• turning the stern through the wind – gybe
• anchoring
• apparent wind
• meteorology – wind, compass rose
• knots

What should you bring with you?

Sailing gloves, two pairs of non-slip shoes or sneakers, T-shirts and long sleeve shirts, short and long pants, strong sunscreen, a cap or a hat, sunglasses, towels, personal hygiene items, bathing suit, towels, mosquito repellent.If you are sailing during colder months or if you are accommodated on board, please bring a warm waterproof jacket, pants and sleeping bag.Please remember to bring personal medications if required.Must have items onboard every day: adequate clothing and footwear, sunscreen, personal medications and other personal items, bottle of water, lunch packet.
